A home to compose
Apartments, family houses, private mansions: interiors conceived to last, in the rightness of historical proportions and the freedom of everyday life.
Richard de Barentin, interior decorator and decorative painter.

“I do not decorate a space ; I place it within a continuity. Neither pastiche nor reconstruction: a living authenticity.”
Richard de BarentinFrench eighteenth-century aesthetics and the techniques of decorative painting shape the way I look at a room.
I love the rightness of a proportion, the freedom of a curve, the nuances a patina reveals in the light. An interior is also composed from very simple gestures: receiving, reading, gathering, withdrawing. That is the life a decor must welcome.
Based in Paris, I work on private residences and hospitality projects, in France and internationally.
Each period has its ornamental grammar, its proportions, its materials. An interior does not quote a style: it understands it.
Decorative painting, gilding, fabrics, joinery: the art crafts give a decor its body. They are chosen, and orchestrated.
A decor that prevents you from living is not a good decor. Behind every panel, storage; behind every enfilade, circulation.
Apartments, family houses, private mansions: interiors conceived to last, in the rightness of historical proportions and the freedom of everyday life.
Guest houses of character, manors and exceptional properties: a decor that gives every guest the feeling of a singular address.
A precise brief or a first intuition: a few words are enough to begin.
